CLIENT OBSERVATORY OPTIONS
At SRO we are aware that our clients are diverse, including space industry professionals involved in satellite tracking and
and
communications, astrophysicists from universities and institutes, variable star observers and advanced astrophotographers.  We offer private, shared and custom observatories with 1" steel base plates on top of the steel reinforced concrete piers which extend over 6 feet underground.   In addition, for those with smaller telescopes operating at a wide FOV, we offer the option of remote imaging at a lower cost within our shared observatories, by placing telescopes on a tripod or pier bolted directly to our solid observatory floor.  This option works well for those with smaller refractors, such as a Takahashi FSQ, with a wide FOV which will tolerate a less stable base.

Low Cost Tripod/Pier on Floor Placement
Private Observatory
Private observatories can accommodate telescopes up to a 20” on an equatorial mount or 28” on an Alt-Az mount. You control the roof.  You have privacy and roof control.

Our private observatory clients range from advanced amateur astrophotographers to space industry professionals.  Some are specialists involved in space communications or using multiple smaller telescopes for satellite tracking.

Shared Observatory
Shared observatories can generally accommodate telescopes up to 28” on an equatorial mount or 32” on an Alt-Az mount. There is no need to worry about weather safety and roof operation – we do that for you.

Low-Cost Pierless Observatory
This lower cost option is ideal for those with a short focal length refractor, such as the Takahashi 106 FSQ or Televue NP101, on low profile mounts.  These can be selectively placed between other telescopes which are on solid base plates, in a shared observatory using their tripods or with piers bolted onto our solid wooden subfloor and operated remotely.  For these smaller telescopes with fast focal ratios and wide FOV, a solid isolated base is not a necessity.  This is a more cost effective setup which allows those with smaller telescopes working at a wide FOV to take advantage of our fiber optic internet speeds, excellent seeing, darkness, and on-site support.

Custom Observatory
Custom observatories can be used for larger meter-class telescopes or those with unique requirements. Private roll-off roof observatories or domes can be placed within 2-4 months.  This gives the user maximum control of their observatory.
