INFRASTRUCTURE

Picture
Since first light in May of 2007, SRO has continuously operated multiple observatories for both professional research and amateur imaging.  Our critical infrastructure includes:

• On-site 24/7 Technical Support
     •  Fiber Optic Internet (200 mbps duplex with gigabit speeds and dedicated fiber available)

• Automated Roof Control

• Secure VPN Access

• Systems Redundancy

Our observatories are roll-off roof design and constructed with elevated wood sub floors, designed to minimize thermal contamination.

Shared Observatories have 9-10 foot ceilings so that all telescopes can be configured such that they never contact the ceiling regardless of the roof or telescope position.

All clients have access to fiber optic internet at 200 mbps, duplex.  For those requiring additional bandwith or security, gibabit speeds with shared or dedicated fiber is available.

Files with weather information (boltwood files) are available for fits file insertion.  Roof position information is also available for telescope image session scripting.

Building and site infrastructure incorporates high-availability of support and fail-safe features with redundancy to maximize equipment safety and minimize downtime.

For Custom Observatories, please contact us via email to discuss your individual needs.
OBSERVATORY DESIGNS

Shared Observatory
Shared observatories can generally accommodate telescopes up to 28” on an equatorial mount or 32” on an Alt-Az mount. There is no need to worry about weather safety and roof operation – we do that for you.

Private Observatory
Private observatories can accommodate telescopes up to a 20” on an equatorial mount or 28” on an Alt-Az mount. You control the roof.

Custom Observatory
Custom observatories can be used for larger meter-class telescopes or those with unique requirements. Private roll-off roof observatories or domes can be placed within 2-4 months.  This gives the user maximum control of their observatory.
